Have you noticed how frequently pundits, newscasters, politicians, and your friends and neighbors invoke 'science' and 'data'? How many times have we heard that the President or someone you know doesn't 'believe in science'. Understand, it's a line drawing, bigoted, anti-Christian, anti-religion dog whistle. Biblically intuitive secular atheists and nominal progressive Christians alike have long adopted the pose that Christians are 'primitive thinkers'. They maintain that belief in Creationism … or Intelligent Design … is indicative of an individual plagued by child like magical thinking. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Christians respect and pursue scientific discovery, because they know and understand that pursuit of the principles, formulas, and axioms that underlay the operation of the universe brings us closer to their author. Christians know that God reveals Himself in His creation, and science is the learned pursuit of that revelation. To better understand how the universe works invariably, irresistibly, and inevitably draws us closer to God. It is that love of God and the desire to know Him better and draw closer to Him that has motivated Christians to be on the forefront of scientific discovery.
Listen to how frequently newscasters, pundits, and your friends and neighbors use the 'science' and 'data driven' talking point. Call them on it. Inquire as to what exactly it is that they 'think' they mean by it. Consider it an opportunity to posit what I've discussed above … and to preach the gospel.
Unwittingly, all these 'sciency' people are in pursuit of God. They're just 'too smart' to understand it.
