Aren't we 'lucky' to witness the "Golden Age of Social Justice"? Pre-pandemic, colleges, universities, millennials, and Park Avenue liberals were constantly reminding us of the important role they play in the societal pursuit of freedom and justice for all. But, answer me this … where are they now? What are they doing to assist their constituents deal with the socio-economic adversities of the pandemic? We know that some heavily endowed social justice institutions like Harvard College has fired its cafeteria workers … the government relief grant laden Kennedy Center its orchestra … and we all witnessed the millennial social justice warrior orphan spring breakers act like insensitive devil-may-care-let-them-eat-cake Covidiots. It's now clear it was all a pose.
Where are the others who advocated for income inequality? Are they assisting the poor in applying for government relief? Are those who seek women's equality advocating for nurses on the front lines deprived of masks and PPE's? Where are the professional organizations purportedly organized to advocate for work place safety and wage fairness? It seems that they are no where to be found. The din of their voices silenced by organizational self preservation.
The quiet is deafening. Duplicity, insincerity, and inconsistency abound. The pandemic has made clear that most of social justice is and has been … simply 'just-us'. Or did I overlook their make shift hospitals, organic CoVid-19 smoothie buster stands, and PPE distribution centers next to the Central Park Christian Samaritans?
