The First Candle

The last couple of years … in furtherance of understanding Hanukkah, I organized a Bible Study of my own for the eight days. It is not my intention to offend, distort, or blasphemously treat the holiday. It is out of respect that I offer these posts to give consideration over the holiday. ____ Sunday, December 22: We lit a candle tonight in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters in remembrance of Mattathias the Hasmonean, his son Judah Maccabee, and the Chasidim, who joined forces, revolted against assimilation of Hellenistic Jews and Seleucid oppression to re-take control of the Temple and put an end to its desecration.

Praise God.
