Like many of you, I have been struggling with the question about the timing, conditions and prudence of re-opening the economy. Intellectually and practically, I understand that we need to balance these interests with prudent, medically sound personal care strategies to adapt to our new reality. Like most of you, those considerations have been weighing heavily on my heart and mind.
This morning the Mulhalls attended online church at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale. Calvary is a nondenominational Evangelical Christian Church with ten (10) campuses and one church family of approximately 24,000. Plantation Campus Pastor, Chris Basilice, taught this morning on healing. Aside from the important theological bona fides of his teaching, Pastor Chris, pictured here (on another day) provided some testimony. You see, he is recovering from CoVid-19.
I mention it because, it was jarring. It's easy to talk about the virus in the abstract. It's another story to hear from and see people who have suffered through it. By all appearances, prior to the virus, Pastor Chris (age 42), husband and father of three (3) children, is/was a fit, healthy, energetic, man. His description of how the virus had affected him was … somewhat terrifying. That, of course, was not his purpose. He spoke truth, inspired understanding, and tended his 'flock' with grace, sincerity, and sound Biblical teaching.
My point? I think most people get it (read … I hope most people get it). As Christians, we know and understand that God is in control. But, like my mother says … 'work' like it depends on you and pray like it depends on God. I guess we all … believers or not … need to continue to behave like it depends upon us because in some measure it actually does. I hope you'll join me in praying for wisdom and discernment for our leaders, continued recovery for Pastor Chris, and God's mercy and healing.
Know that Jesus loves you … and so do I.
