Criminal Justice Reform

Criminal Justice Reform: In 2018, President Trump signed the groundbreaking First Step Act (“Act”). The Act has reformed our criminal justice system making it fairer by providing for more balanced sentencing that had disproportionately harmed Black Americans through the reformation of mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines to create fairer outcomes. Additionally, the Act expands judicial discretion in sentencing of non-violent criminals.

The retroactive sentencing reductions provided for in the Act have resulted in the release of those who had been disproportionately affected by the previous law(s). Over 90% of those benefitting from the retroactive sentencing reductions in the First Step Act are Black Americans. Finally, the Act provides for the establishment and development of rehabilitative programs to assist inmates successfully rejoin society and lower the rate of recidivism.

Democrats say that the President is a white supremacist. Understand, this President is the only president that pressed for criminal justice reform to address the disparate adverse effects of mandatory minimum sentences on Black Americans largely the result of the 1994 Clinton Crime Bill supported by Democrat Presidential Candidate, Joe Biden. The liberal notion that the president is a white supremacist, is sympathetic to white supremacists, or seeks their favor, is a ridiculous deranged lie.
